Spruces Campground

I have camped here in the past and it’s a beautiful campground. But my latest encounter with the campground hostess was disappointing to say the least. I made a reservation over a month ago for a campsite here. They said it closes October 1, so you would assume everything is good. We drove over an hour in the leaf-watching canyon traffic and found the campground completely locked up. The host appeared in her little golf cart and asked if we were there with the group she just let in. I said no, I have a reservation for spot 38. Beautiful campground. Just small. Small sites and all one way. Bringing my 35ft travel trailer through here was a bit tricky.

My wife and I stayed at spot #61. We went to Tanners Flat first, but when we arrived by 4 pm, they had one site left, and it was a group site. We drove to Spruces and found a spot with some good shade, privacy, and close proximity to the bathrooms. You will see quite a few squirrels running and hear them communicating through the day. A few wasps will fly around your picnic table as well. The one downside to our campsite is the sound of traffic from the Big Cottonwood Canyon Road. Cars, semis, and motorcycles will be heard around 6:00-6:30 am. Overall, the campsites and amenities were clean…
