Every single one of those campsites need to be paid for but the pay booth is down by the boat ramp, making it unaware to the people on the upper two rows. The first 16 sites are up above and no one ever pays up there. It's only six dollars a night unless you have a discount pass, then it's half that price. I paid ten dollars for 3 nights
Beautiful scenery. The constant traffic all night kept me up. Sleeping in a tent.
Sportsman's is a great place to stop overnight on your way to somewhere else. There aren't any gates that close at ten, and on weekdays there are plenty of spots in my experience. However, there are no amenities and when I last went none of the vault toilets were open. There are lots of flies and bugs, and there is definitely a ton of trash everywhere. Tent camping was doable if a little uncomfortable. But again, it's a great place to sleep a few hours and get back on the road.
