Sourdough Springs Campground

Campground was only a 50 minute hike with a nine-year-old from the West trailhead parking lot. Wide and easy trail could fit four people across. Beautiful wildflowers and wildlife. Campsites included a very nice level gravel area for one large tent and additional grassy areas for More tents. Pit privy was spotless and stocked. The bear containers were large enough to climb in. We stayed on a Saturday night in early August and were the only ones there. The rawhide trail around the perimeter was very nice and we bush whacked easily up to the high point in the park and it was spectacular. Views …

I felt like this was a fantastic campground. Good shade cover, came with picnic tables and a raised flat bed for tents. Was perfect for a short day of backpacking around the park and sleeping at this campground, while only being 1.6 miles from the parking lot if you walk straight back.

This campground requires a permit to camp here. Go to the website 24 hours (minimum) before you want to stay. We saw there was only 1 permit available and that all the other spots were reserved, but when we got here, we were the only campers. It was $11.50 for one night. There is a flat, gravel surface to set up your tent (it's not huge) and there is running water for cleaning hands, pretty nice bathrooms, a picnic table, and bear-proof bins for your food when you go to bed.
