About Smith River Retreat

This beautiful spot on the Smith River was once an old mining claim. The property boundaries actually go half way out into the river. The present house was built in 1957 and has been remodeled a few times since. The host retired from teaching 12 years ago and spends much of her time improving the landscaping and gardening, while playing with her giant Shiloh Shepherd.

Such a stunning property! Carole was so hospitable and made us feel very welcome. I will be back should I be passing through that area again.

As many others have said, it’s an incredible spot! Besides the beautiful location, Carole is a warm host. Everything around the site is clearly marked and she is very responsive to any needs or questions. Also, she shares all about the plants around her home.

The site is right next to a gorgeous private entry point to the smith river. It is a truly special spot. Even though we arrived later than expected, we were welcomed warmly. The surrounding garden is beautiful and we enjoyed the night sky and sounds of frogs. It was a lovely spot to camp for the night, and we hope to come back and spend some more time at the river.

I can highly recommend Carol‘s beautiful Hip Camp property. She’s an avid gardener and a wonderful artist as well. The Smith river adjacent to her property is clean and perfect for a summer swim. She met us at the gate and helped show us around so that we could feel comfortable. Thank you, Carol. I hope to be back. 🌷
