Palomar Mountain State Park is a wonderful place to visit. With hiking trails, campgrounds, picnic areas, a fishing pond, and historic sites, there’s no shortage of ways to enjoy the outdoors. I wasn’t there to camp, but signs throughout the park made it clear that campsites are limited. The Boucher Hill Fire Tower (labeled “Boucher Lookout Tower” on the park map) was closed for the season, and Boucher Hill Scenic Drive (shown as Boucher Road on the map)—a Civilian Conservation Corps road built in the 1930s—was gated and closed to vehicles. On the plus side, all trails appeared to be open.…
Just watch out for the guy with the rifle and if he asks if you're Mexican, say no!!
