Oscar Scherer State Park

One of the best state parks for camping. Very clean bathrooms and hot showers.

Beautiful clean Park with water and electric hookups. Campsites average sized mostly with lots of trees for privacy. Great place for a bike ride or a hike.

We love the park because it's right on the Legacy Trail which allows easy biking to Venice, Nakomis and Siesta Key beaches. It's a quiet place and is like being in the country when you've really got everything within a 5 minute drive. The staff seemed to not be as caring as during previous stays. At least 2 camp host spots were vacant for the duration of our 2 weeks. The one which was occupied was around very little and didn't seem to know much about the campground or area. Nice park and trails but the crime level there is unacceptable. I had my ebike stolen at night from our campsite along with three other campers bikes that same night. Then, the following night three more e-bikes were stolen from other campers at Oscar Scherer. No one alerting campers of this problem. No signs posted anywhere. Poor communication by park officials. Police and park officials thought that the crime was committed by people coming into the park via the connected trail system. Something needs to be done to make this park safer.
