Mardi-Gras Manor

Somehow I was booked in after the hosts season had ended. I arrived late, but my host Jon was so nice and accommodating. He escorted me to a site by the lake and helped me hookup. My stay was a very restful time.

It's a funky, eclectic experience. The host has done a lot to make the place fun. From the camp bar with games to the zip line to the watercraft, the site is an all-in-one, stay-and-play adventure. As the listing states, this is NOT a child-friendly camp, but our dog loved it! We had a blast learning to pedal boat, doing some stargazing, and watching the geese.

If you love the high desert, or you simply must travel through, Jon's place is a unique experience. Here's a lake where you'd least expect to find it. Jon was once a sea captain who did sea floor explorations. He recalled it as a pretty exciting experience of what they were finding. A fleet of little boats pose in various evocative attitudes on the spring-fed pond/lake. He acquired them from a Longbeach warehouse being torn down, where he was told he could take whatever he wanted. Madri Gras is a magical oasis in the high desert. Capt Jon has amassed an eclectic collection of interesting objects. He is an interesting character, very nice and informative. The pond attracts birds and has at least one turtle that will pop its head out every once and awhile. The pond floor is a little mucky, so bring water shoes if that bothers you. The pond is the deepest at 7ft near the island. He’s got a zip line into the pond, boats, paddle boards to use. I recommend bringing some inner tubes or pool lounge floaties. Jons place was amazing. He really lets you take advantage of all the perks of his land. The little lake was so refreshing in the heat. He lets you drive around and see where you want to camp and it really feels like dispersed camping. My wife and I will definitely be coming back! Thanks Jon!

We had a fantastic stay at Capt. Jon's property! The location was absolutely beautiful, and Capt. Jon was such a great host very friendly and welcoming. Our dog had the best time running around and swimming. It really felt like the perfect getaway for us. I highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a fun and relaxing camping experience!
