About Lost Coast
Welcome to The Lost Coast in Petrolia, CA- WE HAVE THREE SITES-The Garden Cabin, The Abalone RV, and The Milk Shed. Discover your peaceful retreat nestled just 4 miles from the pristine Lost Coast of California. Situated in the remote and unspoiled wilderness of the National King Range, this area boasts 35 miles of undeveloped coastline and the renowned Lost Coast Trail, perfect for hiking and enjoying the serene beachfront. Surrounded by abundant wildlife, mountain lion, black bear, coyote, raccoon, skunk, and natural beauty, The Lost Coast offers a tranquil escape, once you arrive. The road leading in is twisty and narrow with many pot holes so arrive during daylight hours. The last 30 miles takes over an hour to drive, the road is no joke. Once you arrive, I will give you a short tour of the property, like where the compost toilet is located! Now you are ready for your solitude in nature or adventurous exploration along the rugged coastline. This remote area provides endless opportunities for relaxation and adventure. We offer home baked organic sourdough bread for $10 and it is sooooo goood! Other local amenities include a Sunday Farmers Market, the Petrolia Store that makes a nice deli sandwich, volunteer fire department, no hospital, and a post office. There is WiFi, limited cell service, so this terrain is rugged, remote, so pack accordingly. Due to the surroundings, there is a standard release form for our guests to sign. Come experience the tranquility and beauty of the Lost Coast at the Garden Cabin – it truly is heaven on earth.

What a gem. Dana, the host, is so lovely, warm, and informative. The land itself is pure magic. The bed is cozy, the outdoor clawfoot bathtub with that view??!! I loved every minute. The garden is stunning too. Dana is a very gracious host and very LGBTQ friendly. I can't wait to come back.
This was a special place indeed. The cabin is SO well appointed. It was so thoughtfully designed and appointed. We ate our sourdough boule the first day of our LCT hike. The produce from the garden was delicious. The host was delightful.
Everything was perfect. It was exactly what we were looking for and much more. Dana and Dan are incredibly generous and the kindest people. They are wonderful to talk with and if you get the chance to play some golf on Dana’s golf course she made, you will be so glad! (She’s a golf pro! Like literally!) Most beautiful garden I’ve ever saw, peaceful serene views, cozy cabin, just the best. We can’t wait to come back!
This was a great and restorative place to stay. It was beautiful, clean, quiet, and the hosts were kind. It is close to a beautiful beach and the land itself is beautiful. Birds are chirping everywhere and gentle fog covers the trees. We bought bread from Dan and Dana and it was so good!! What a lovely place :)
What a beautiful garden cabin in a beautiful place!!! I felt so much peace there. The cabin was clean, the bed SO comfy, the thoughtful touches incredible, the outdoor tub so fun, the most beautiful view from the compost toilet ever, and the kindest host. Lovely lovely lovely all around
Excellent hospitality and amazing views. I live within a couple hours drive and would happily visit again. Dana is a very warm host.
