Hillsborough River State Park Campground

Helpful friendly staff. A real gem that could use some polishing. Underappreciated by those that fund.

Easy access, good paved road to the campground then hard packed gravel road around the campground. Well stayed at site 78. It’s a large site with a fair amount of shade. The campground has a lot of tall pine trees, great for shade but not a lot of shrubs so privacy is lacking. The campground is clean and well maintained. The bathhouse was clean as well and felt well maintained as well. It was our second visit there and we would return but we would pick a more secluded site. The ranger at the registration booth was very friendly and efficient.

This state park NEEDS updating badly. Bathrooms need new fixtures. Wall to the river is definitely an eye sore and in disrepair. Canon launch is a hazard. We enjoy this camping spot because it’s close to home but definitely needs attention. The sites get flooded out easily and are root /pot holes filled. Bring leveling blocks for sure. Very nice walking trails and bridges. Great playground for kids. The rangers and staff/ volunteers are amazingly helpful and friendly. Unfortunately the large pool has been closed down for years. We loved summers there.
