Primitive camping at its best! Quiet and a beautiful drive to get there.
This place worked well for what I was looking for. The tent is spacious and features a queen bed, a table, and a toilet (with a trash bag that you will need to take with you). The anarondak chairs are very comfortable and perfect for stargazing. There is not a lot of light pollution, so the stars are wonderful! You will need to bring all of your camping supplies with you, as it is more of a bare-bones spot, but plenty of space to set up a "kitchen" inside the tent, or outside on the picnic table. Nice set up close enough to town but not too close that you're in the mix. We stayed here as our homes base for Salida's bike fest weekend and worked out great.
Good distance to/from Salida, while also feeling “off the grid”. Great views of the surrounding peaks. Suggest bringing warm layers for the cooler evenings and a warm comforter. Our dog prefers sleeping in his crate and the tent is big enough to setup in the corner. Recommend checking it out. Thank you!
