About Colorado Sports Ranch & Refuge

High up in the San Luis Valley, the Colorado Sports Ranch and Refuge occupies over 200 acres. Joyful Journey Hot Springs is 10 minutes away, and Great Sand Dunes National Park is visible from the property. The property includes a small garlic farm (High Desert Garlic) with garlic products for sale in season. The ranch is uniquely suited to athletes and other fitness enthusiasts with a 5k running/walking trail and a well stocked indoor/outdoor gym with kettlebells, TRX equipment, squat and bench racks, plyo boxes, bands, rowing and cycling machines, basketball hoop, and all manner of agility equipment. Gym cost is $10 per person or $25 for a group of four. Gym users must sign a liability waiver. The camping area is about 1/4 mile from the main house and about 300 meters from the rest room and potable water. The highest concentration of 14,000 foot peaks in Colorado is in this area with trail heads in nearby Crestone. Rock climbers and rock hounds will enjoy Penitente Canyon about 40 minutes west. White water rafting and all manner of paddling are available on the Arkansas River in nearby Salida, as is access to some of the finest mountain biking in the world, particularly the Monarch Crest Trail. World class fly fishing can be found on the Arkansas River, and Blue Mesa Reservoir is home to all varieties of trout, pike, and kokanee salmon. We are happy to arrange tours with local guides and adventure providers. The Colorado Sports Ranch and Refugee is a working, off-grid, sustainable homestead. Horses, goats, chickens, ducks, turkeys, dogs, cats, and a donkey all share the property. Animal tours are available.

What a beautiful and peaceful place to camp! Lisa was so friendly and accommodating and the ranch is breathtaking. With the tranquil sounds of nature everywhere and the beautiful mountain views all around this is definitely a wonderful place to pitch a tent and relax a while! :) The sunsets are so glorious and colorful and the land is great for a long stroll. If you are looking for some inner peace and a zen spot to rest your head then this is the place. I would definitely stay here again! :D

Nice place to camp for the sand dunes. Easy to find and able to access the camp site in a 2003 Honda Accord. Fire pit (firewood for sale for $5), flat logs for seating, host provides a trailer with a bathroom, potable water, a cup of morning coffee, and fun tour of all the animals on the farm! Great experience, amazing sunset views, it's how you want car camping to go.

Wow! Such a perfect spot to pitch a tent for the night. You'll enjoy a very private sandy campsite. A neat fire/picnic area (wood $5) and a charcoal grill if you happen to bring some! Lisa's property is an amazing and very convenient place to spend the night before heading to the Sand Dunes early in the morning. I hope everyone gets to meet Peggy the pet donkey who is more like a dog. If you're a fitness enthusiast you can even go pump some iron in the open gym. 10/10 would recommend

Colorado Sports Ranch and Refuge was amazing! The views from the campsite are stunning. There are a 3 campsites, but all feel very private. Lisa was a great host and my boyfriend and I felt super comfortable staying there 2 nights. The bathroom in the RV a short walk away and fresh water made it even easier. Sunsets by the fire were magical with the mountains in the background. One note is that there isn't any natural shade, so if you are planning to hang out during the day or go in the middle of summer, might recommend some kind of shaded canopy. Overall, 10/10.

We had an amazing stay here! The animals at the ranch were very sweet. I bonded with the goats and the cat while my boyfriend loved the donkey, Peggy, and the horse! Lisa is a great host, making us delicious coffee, introducing us to her dogs, and giving us a tour of her homestead. The campsite has beautiful views.

Such an amazing spot, not far from the dunes and super private. Definitely ask for the animal tour and buy some fresh duck or chicken eggs! Thanks Lisa!
