Went to the Red Mountain Pass location in late February with a group of girlfriends. Low snow year in Colorado, but honestly didn’t matter. We had the best time. Jack was our hut keeper and the man can cook. The nightly desserts alone were worth it. He’s also just genuinely good company over meals — but his cutie lil pup might be the ultimate host of all. I love that you don’t need to be an expert to get the most out of the hut — it’s super accessible and offers a lot for anyone looking to get out in the backcountry. Campfire Ranch at RMP and the staff completely exceeded my expectations. The setting is UNREAL, and something everyone should experience at least once in their lives. It’s tucked high in the San Juan Mountains making it feel remote in the best way, but still super accessible to Silverton and Ouray. In the winter, it’s an incredible base for backcountry touring. Easy access to terrain right out the door, and nothing beats coming back to a warm, cozy space, annd the sauna of course - after a long day in the snow. I've frequented a handful of huts across Colorado and can easily say this was by far the best hut I've ever visited. They have an on staff manager who whips up breakfast & dinner for you, recommends backcounty ski routes and stokes the sauna for you. Enjoy clean beds, great views and even better vibes at this hut located half a mile off Red Mountain Pass highway at 11k feet. Get your reservation early because this place is sure to book up early. Highly recommend!
