Camp Etowa

About Camp Etowa
Former ranch land in the historic old mining town of Bisbee, Arizona. Ongoing projects - restoring the orchard, growing new varieties of flowers, cacti and other drought tolerant plants that are "appropriate" for the high desert with Etowa Farms, harvesting and milling mesquite, irrigation, water harvesting, recycled bottle and can walls, composting and turning the corral into a music venue. We are committed to the wildlife and ecosystem at Camp Etowa and will be hosting a swap meet and sessions in sustainability, art, survival and wilderness medicine soon. We have two very friendly service dogs, an owl and a hawk that hang out with us, javalena, jack rabbits, mule deer, quail, doves and coyote that will sing to you on clear nights (sometimes even if it's cloudy). We love kids and dogs, but this is tuly wilderness; so be prepared to for the occasional encounter.

Neat spot! Perfect for vanlife. We came later out of Bisbee and it was easy to find - directions spot on. It’s literally at the Mexican Border u can see the fence and town of Naca which I thought was awesome. The dirt is a cool red color and we did a vanlife photoshoot in the morning. Definitely be prepared to combat the mosquitos!
I set up a tent and just needed it to get some sleep and everything went okay. The owner of the place warned me of the wildlife and I thought it was nice falling asleep listening to the animals.
A peaceful spot to pitch a tent, or go #vanlife with quick access to several diverse, local points of interest: Camp Etowa is a well-placed launchpad. Our arrival to Camp Etowa was a breeze. Thanks to our host for the clear, easy-to-follow instructions in. Shortly after arriving, our host drove by and made sure we were comfortable for the evening. Thank you! During our visit, my husband and I set up our tent on a level, open tent site, popped open the camp chairs, and let the awning sail. The plot was clean with great, panoramic views of the surrounding mountains-- many opportunities for pea…
It was very basic with no signage of where to camp. Dina was very apologetic that she wasn’t there when we arrived and did give us directions over the phone. The camp spot was just a widening of her access road to the house.
For anyone doing the AZ BDR (Backcountry Discovery Route) this is a good launch location. Roughly 20 miles east of the beginning of section 1. Site is a simple pullout on the road to the host’s home. Very cool nighttime view of the lights at the border. Was just what we needed before starting the BDR.
Dina was so kind. She made sure that I felt comfortable being in the wild desert. She even brought me a gallon of water to make sure tgat I had enough. Saw a beautiful sunset, starry skies, and the twinkling lights of Bisbee in the distance.
