Very warm afternoon. Shower closets are HOT. There is climate control but it isn’t running. I am disabled and excess heat is a trigger for me. This is Saturday and the visitors center and park office is closed. There are trails from the campground but they are narrow and overgrown. There are trails that connect to the Rock Garden trail (the rocks are cool!) but there is no signage to say where they go or how long they are. Seems the park needs more staff. Very little shade in RV sites. I do have a strong Verizon signal in my site in the campground, so that is good.
My husband and I had a wonderful weekend visiting Black Mesa State Park and the Nature Preserve. The campground was nice, plenty of shade, clean bathrooms and showers and the camp hosts were amazing. The little store has essentials and even frozen treats. We really enjoyed the trails in the park as well as the high point summit trail. If you make it up the summit to the monument, go the extra bit to the edges. The views from both side trails were worth the extra walk. My favorite trail was the Rock Garden loop trail which is a combination of 4 trails within the park. There are other trails in …
