Best glamping in New Hampshire: the White Mountains and the lakes

New Hampshire is small and vertical — the White Mountains rise fast, the lakes pool below them, and a short seacoast caps the southeast. Glamping here is mountain glamping, with a strong fall season.

The White Mountains (North Conway, Lincoln, Jackson, Franconia)

The heart of it. Granite peaks, deep notches, and the Kancamagus Highway — one of the best foliage drives in the country. Cabins, A-frames, and yurts throughout. North Conway is the eastern hub; Lincoln and Franconia anchor the west.

The Lakes Region (Lake Winnipesaukee, Squam Lake)

New Hampshire’s water country — Winnipesaukee is the big one, Squam the quieter, film-famous neighbor. Cabins and lakeside glamping for swimming-and-paddling summers.

The Monadnock region (the quiet southwest)

Rolling hills under Mount Monadnock, one of the most-climbed peaks in the world. Quiet villages, hardwood forest, and cabin glamping well off the tourist track.

The Great North Woods

Above the White Mountains — remote forest, moose country, and a handful of cabins and yurts for travelers who want true quiet. Sparse but real.

What to know

  • Black-fly season (mid-May to mid-June) is real in the mountains and the north. July onward is far more pleasant.
  • White Mountain weather changes fast — Mount Washington has some of the worst weather on earth. Pack layers even in summer.
  • Foliage peaks roughly the last week of September into the first two weeks of October, mountains first.
  • The Kancamagus (“the Kanc”) has no services along its length — fuel and supplies before you drive it.
