Best glamping in the Blue Ridge Mountains

The Blue Ridge Mountains are the most-loved range in the eastern US — soft layered ridges, hardwood forest, waterfalls, and the 469-mile Blue Ridge Parkway running the crest. They cross four states, and the glamping changes character as you travel them. Here’s the range, section by section.

North Georgia (the southern end)

Where the Blue Ridge begins — Georgia’s mountain corner around Blue Ridge, Helen, and Dahlonega. Waterfalls, the start of the Appalachian Trail at Springer Mountain, and a dense cabin scene.

Western North Carolina (the heart)

The deepest, highest section — Asheville as the cultural hub, the Great Smokies to the west, and the highest peaks in the eastern US. The densest, most varied glamping in the entire range.

Southwest Virginia (the highlands)

The Mount Rogers highlands, the Virginia Creeper Trail, and the highest country in Virginia — cool, green, and uncrowded. Cabin and yurt glamping well off the tourist track.

The Shenandoah section (northern Virginia)

The Blue Ridge as the crest of Shenandoah National Park — Skyline Drive, the Virginia Piedmont below, and cabin glamping along the park’s edge.

What to know

  • The Blue Ridge Parkway is the connective thread — a slow, scenic, no-commercial-traffic road. It’s the trip as much as a route between points.
  • Foliage peaks roughly mid-October, working down the range from north and high to south and low.
  • The “blue” haze is real — a natural atmospheric effect from the forest. Layered-ridge sunrises are the signature image.
  • Elevation matters: ridge-top properties can be 10–15°F cooler than the valleys, and weather rolls through fast.
  • Western North Carolina is the inventory capital; the other sections trade some choice for more quiet.
